We all like to portray our 'best self' on the internet, but how honest are these representations?
The term 'Catfishing' springs to mind when considering this topic - where someone uses a false identity online and pretends to be someone they're not. Commonly associated with internet dating, where someone who may not be very attractive decides to use another individual's photo. 💁 I mean this is inevitably going to end in tears and no good can come from it, right? I think the show Catfish (one of the best TV shows invented📺) demonstrates that quite clearly.
I believe that there are many people who use social media as a platform to paint a picture 🖌to others that they are 'living their best life' so to speak. It's almost like we feel the need to post on social media to 'prove' that we are surrounded by positive experiences and loads of friends👯. But is that because we are insecure? For some reason as human beings we feel we need reassurance and approval from other people and by posting on social media this enables us to do it over the internet and feel good about ourselves by receiving a lot of likes or comments.💬
But why do we need people's approval?
What's actually going on behind our online profiles?
Are we just pretending to be happy?
Of course I can't speak for everyone as this may not be the case for a lot of people, but I believe some of us like to hide behind a mask online 😷, whilst in reality it's a different story.
