Social media continues to develop and evolve, as new ideas and trends emerge and communication patterns and habits change.
Remember when MySpace was first introduced and everyone was so excited by the concept of being friends with people online and communicating with them over a website😮. Oh my days how wild...you could even upload your favourite song to your profile🎵. I can't remember what mine was, was probably Mcfly or something lame let's be honest (just kidding, Mcfly are amazing).
It seems strange to think back to the days when we didn't have forms of communication over the internet, when simple texting or god forbid ringing people was how you got in touch with people😳. With apps such as Facebook messenger and WhatsApp, it's all done over the internet. Fast and efficient. Unless you run out of data allowance and have no Wifi then you're pretty much screwed.
Today imagery is used even more commonly than words on social media. For example, the use of emojis and gifs are frequently used in online conversations and are used by many people to portray their thoughts or emotions without having to even write any text. Is this lazy of us?😴 Probably. I've found it's also a good way to end a conversation without having to continue it, or simply just liking the message or reacting to it with a reaction face (yes this is a thing now).
So what's next for social media? Who can predict what apps we will be using in 10 years time?
